Unseen Christo and Jeanne-Claude Installation Debuts at Gagosian London

A never-before-seen installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, titled "Air Package on a Ceiling," opens at Gagosian's Grosvenor Hill space in London on May 21, 2026. The work was originally conceived in 1968 for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia but never realized due to technical constraints. The project was rediscovered in 2018 when Lorenza Giovanelli, Christo's former studio manager, found a detailed scale model inside a pedestal. The installation, a large suspended cloud-like form illuminated from within, measures 16 by 10 meters and fills the gallery's main space. The exhibition also includes preparatory drawings, collages, and rare early works, such as "Wrapped Automobile—Volvo, Model PV-544" (1981), not exhibited for thirty years, which belonged to art dealer Serge De Bloe. A concurrent show at Gagosian's Burlington Arcade location features works on paper and books about the artist.
