Unseen Calder mobile from 1974 to be auctioned in Paris following retrospective
On May 22, Oger – Blanchet will present a previously unrecognized mobile by Alexander Calder, named Stabile-mobile and created in 1974, at Hôtel Drouot in Paris. This piece, which is estimated to fetch between €80,000 and €120,000, boasts a red-lacquered base and white lacquered discs that rotate when touched. It was crafted just two years prior to Calder's passing in 1976 and has been in the possession of an anonymous collector, referred to as Mrs. H, for the past 50 years. She received it from Calder during her tenure at the French National Museum of Modern Art. The auction aligns with a significant Calder retrospective at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Calder's mobiles command high prices, exemplified by the sale of Poisson volant (1957) for $25.9 million in 2014.
