Unseen Amsterdam 2024 highlights emerging photography talent from global galleries
Unseen Amsterdam's 12th edition opens September 19-22 at Westergas, attracting approximately 25,000 visitors to view contemporary photography. Around 70 galleries and 65 independent publishers present boundary-pushing work. Five notable artists featured include Nella Ngingo, represented by Motormond, showcasing portraits exploring Black girlhood through her Brave Beauties series. Svante Gullichsen, with Galerie Helder, displays self-portraits from his Hanging On series set in Porvoo's Finnish archipelago. Giuseppe Lo Schiavo, represented by Spazio Nuovo, presents synthetic photography experiments in Windowscapes. Barry Salzman, with THK Gallery, exhibits landscape images of genocide sites in Rwanda, Poland, Namibia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine. Atong Atem, represented by MARS Gallery, presents Men In This Town, referencing African studio photographers Malick Sidibé, Philip Kwame Apagya, and Seydou Keïta. The event runs from September 19 to 22, 2024.
