Unprepared Hearts: European Art Project for Pre-Teen Emotional Education

other · 2026-05-04

Unprepared Hearts is a co-funded European project under the Creative Europe Programme (€1.46 billion for 2014-2020) that uses artistic workshops to help children aged 9-13 navigate emotional and physical changes during adolescence. The initiative involves three cultural organizations: MUBA – Museo dei Bambini Milano (Italy), Sladovna Pisek (Czech Republic), and Associazione Da’DeCe (Romania). Each partner developed a unique atelier: Italy's 'Embroided feelings' by artist Coquelicot Mafille uses embroidery and writing to help children identify emotions; the Czech Republic's 'Seven vallies' is a participatory theater workshop co-designed with TPO of Prato, focusing on masks and social identity; Romania's 'Unspoken of' is a performative workshop exploring body perception and shame. The project is itinerant, with workshops held in Milan, Sladovna, and Bucharest in original languages with simultaneous translators. Italian dates: Embroided feelings on November 30 and December 1, 2019 (plus school dates); Unspoken of from December 4-6, 2019; Seven vallies from March 18-20, 2020.
