Unmute Art: videoguide in LIS per l'accessibilità museale

Orpheo, a company specializing in museum technologies, has introduced Unmute Art, a project featuring video guides designed for the deaf, utilizing real-life painting and image recognition. This technology was first tested at the Andy Warhol exhibition (2019-2020) held at the Basilica di Pietrasanta in Naples. By scanning the screen prints with the app, users could access LIS commentary without taking their eyes off the artwork. The initiative stems from the "Arte per Tutti" manifesto of 2016, developed through patronage and partnerships with private entities and organizations. Loredana Amenta, the project leader, notes that many Italian museums are hesitant to invest in accessibility technologies. In spring 2020, Unmute Art received the top honor at the GLAMi Awards for cultural heritage innovation and was also recognized as one of the best global projects at the 20th edition of The Best in Heritage conference, organized by the European Heritage Association in collaboration with ICOM and Europa Nostra. Orpheo aims to implement this technology in museums worldwide for both temporary exhibitions and permanent collections.
