University of Pisa Launches Observatory to Map Italian Museum Digital Initiatives During COVID-19

digital · 2026-04-27

The MUSEIA-Laboratory of Museum Culture at the University of Pisa has introduced the #museichiusimuseiaperti Observatory to track online activities by Italian museums following the COVID-19 shutdowns. Under the guidance of Professor Antonella Gioli, the initiative curates cultural offerings, such as broadcasts from GAMeC in Bergamo and workshops at Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence. The Observatory consists of three components: Mappatura (Mapping), Da MUSEIA, and Remix, which features memes and videos. An archive will evaluate practices, trends, and audience engagement. It serves enthusiasts, students, scholars, and museum professionals, with daily updates from scholarship holders (Elena Janniello, Gemma Bolognesi, Francesca Mannocci, Rita Salis) and intern Federico Fava, plus a new column titled "Spunti" for related insights.
