University of Arts London secures injunction against 15 students after campus protest

institutional · 2026-04-20

In April, ArtReview reported that the University of Arts London secured a legal injunction barring 15 students from demonstrating on campus. This action followed a sit-in at the Central St Martins building's reception in March, where the protest aimed to contest the removal of 580 foundation art and design positions. Among those affected, seven are student union representatives. Vice-chancellor Nigel Carrington expressed to the Guardian the university's dedication to free speech and nonviolent protest, although some critics have interpreted his remarks as potentially misleading.
