Uniqlo Launches T-Shirt Collection Inspired by Haruki Murakami Novels

publication · 2026-04-27

Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo, known for its casual style and over two thousand stores worldwide, has released a new line of T-shirts inspired by celebrated Japanese author Haruki Murakami (Kyoto, 1949). Following a previous collaboration with the Louvre in Paris that produced a collection designed by Peter Saville, this series features eight men's T-shirt designs based on phrases and cover art from Murakami's most famous novels, including Norwegian Wood, Sputnik Sweetheart, Flipper 1973, 1Q84, Dance Dance Dance, and Kafka on the Shore. The collection also includes T-shirts with illustrations of a cat from Murakami RADIO, a music program produced and hosted by Murakami in Japan. The UT Haruki Murakami / Murakami RADIO UT collection is now available on Uniqlo's website. In an interview with Uniqlo's online magazine, Murakami discussed his personal style, stating he prefers simple clothing like jeans and a T-shirt, and noted that his collaboration with Uniqlo is fitting because he owns a significant collection of T-shirts, many of which are souvenirs from concerts by rock icons such as Bruce Springsteen and the Beach Boys.
