Uniqlo and Louvre Launch Four-Year Partnership with Peter Saville Collection
Uniqlo has announced a four-year partnership with the Musée du Louvre, launching a new clothing collection designed by graphic designer Peter Saville. The collection, titled Musée du Louvre, features iconic artworks such as the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and Venus de Milo reinterpreted through Saville's style. The men's line focuses on these masterpieces, while the women's line highlights female figures from art history, including Raphael's La belle jardinière and Ingres's Odalisque. Saville drew inspiration from the Louvre's inventory numbering system, noting that the Mona Lisa is cataloged as 'N. INV 779'. As part of the partnership, Uniqlo becomes the sponsor of the Louvre's Free Saturday Nights program, which offers extended evening hours on the first Saturday of each month and Mini-Discovery Tours for families. The program, which began in January 2019, is set to resume in spring 2021 after pandemic closures. Tadashi Yanai, CEO of Fast Retailing, expressed his honor at collaborating with the Louvre, emphasizing Uniqlo's commitment to making art accessible. Peter Saville, co-founder of Factory Records and known for his album covers for Joy Division and New Order, was awarded a CBE in 2020 for his services to design.
