UNESCO lists ten Soviet modernist buildings in Tashkent as World Heritage
Ten modernist structures from the Soviet era in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, have been designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. This recognition stems from the extensive Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI research and preservation initiative, spearheaded by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation. The buildings, constructed between the 1960s and 1980s, feature notable designs such as the Panoramic Cinema (1964) by Vladimir Beryozin and the Lenin Museum (1970) by Yevgeny Rozanov and Vsevolod Shestopalov. Other significant sites include the Central Exhibition Hall (1974), the State Museum of Arts (1974), the State Circus (1976), and the People's Friendship Palace (1981). Gayane Umerova, chairperson of the foundation, emphasized the importance of this inscription for Uzbekistan's architectural legacy. Research was conducted with contributions from Milan-based studio Grace and others.
