UNESCO Adds 13 New Cultural Sites Worldwide Including Dholavira and Nice
At its 44th session held in Fuzhou, China, the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO designated 13 new cultural sites and expanded the 16th-century monasteries on Popocatepetl in Mexico to encompass the Our Lady of the Assumption complex in Tlaxcala. Italy now boasts 58 UNESCO-recognized sites, with Bologna added to Padua Urbs Picta and Montecatini. The newly recognized locations include: Dholavira in India, the Cultural Landscape of Hawraman/Uramanat in Iran, Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Japan, Roșia Montană in Romania, As-Salt in Jordan, eight mosques in Côte d'Ivoire, Nice in France, Sítio Roberto Burle Marx in Brazil, Chankillo in Peru, Church of Atlántida in Uruguay, Chinchorro sites in Chile, Frontiers of the Roman Empire in Germany and the Netherlands, and ShUM sites in Germany.
