Uncommon Creative Studio's 'Cultured' Campaign for OFFF Barcelona 2026 Uses Community as Raw Material

festival-fair · 2026-04-19

Uncommon Creative Studio has developed a radical new visual identity titled 'Cultured' for the OFFF Barcelona 2026 festival. The campaign transforms the creative community from audience into medium by collecting biological traces from participants at 'Mixer' events in London and New York. These physical residues—fibers, imprints, and fragments—were translated into a bespoke design system featuring biomorphic typography and organic textures. The custom typeface Hyphae draws inspiration from fungal networks, while visual assets were created in collaboration with artist Dasha Plesen, known as the 'Mold Queen' for working with bacteria. The identity rejects polished branding systems in favor of something unstable and alive, positioning creativity as a collective, human-centered process rather than an optimized product. Uncommon co-founder Nils Leonard describes the concept as existing between a heist and a magic trick, with historical echoes to Yves Klein's body-as-medium explorations. The campaign includes large-scale projections onto Barcelona's Disseny Hub, making community traces visible in public space. OFFF director Pep Salazar notes the work makes the festival's community-centric ethos tangible, literally building the campaign from designers themselves. In an era of AI-assisted outputs, the project asserts creativity as fundamentally human, messy, and participatory.
