Unauthorized Performances Take Over Rome's Public Spaces

In Rome, a collection of unapproved performances known as 'Iniziative di II' is taking back public areas, drawing inspiration from the anti-bourgeois and anarchic themes of late theater director Simone Carella. This movement originates from the exhibition 'Io poeto tu', which delves into Carella's contributions and life. Organizers told Artribune that Carella's 1977 'Iniziative di ii' sought to transform urban environments into venues for genuine, temporary performances by artists, musicians, and theater groups, challenging the conventional theater scene. The current iteration, marked with a capitalized 'II', is an unsanctioned festival encouraging risk-taking. Previous events have included a brief flash concert by Salò and Nicola Pecoraro's fake concert posters. Future performances will be shared exclusively with newsletter subscribers. Scheduled acts from May 15 to 19, 2021, feature REPLICA, Tommaso Arnaldi, Lisa Andreani, Luca Lo Pinto, Francesca Pionati & Maziar Firouzi, and Pescheria, among others.
