Umbrian Itinerary Tracing Perugino's Works from Città della Pieve to Panicale

An itinerary through Umbria traces the works of Pietro di Cristoforo Vannucci, known as Perugino (c. 1448–1523), born in Città della Pieve. The route includes the Oratorio dei Bianchi in Città della Pieve, housing the Adoration of the Magi (1504), where a letter found in the 19th century records the artist's discount from 200 to 100 florins, compensated by a house donation. In Perugia, the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria displays works from the Tavolette di San Bernardino (1473) to mature pieces, while the Collegio del Cambio features frescoes (1497–98) including a Nativity allegory of Charity. The Cappella di San Severo in Piazza Raffaello holds a joint fresco by Raphael (1505) and Perugino (1521), completed after Raphael's death. The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo retains a mural of Madonna delle Grazie, and the Basilica di San Pietro houses fragments of the Polittico di San Pietro (1496–1500), described by Vasari as Perugino's best work in Perugia. The Oratorio di San Bernardino and Convento di Monteripido feature the rare opistograph panel with an applied crucifix. In Panicale, the Chiesa di San Sebastiano displays Perugino's Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian (1505), set in an ideal classical cityscape overlooking Lake Trasimeno.
