Umbria's Olive Oil Tourism Routes Blend Culture and Landscape

The Strada dell'Olio DOP Umbria, founded twenty years ago as a pioneering association, now promotes oleotourism across the region. President Paolo Morbidoni notes a generational shift: younger producers are modernizing farms and investing in hospitality, exemplified by Marfuga in Campello sul Clitunno, which redesigned its mill as a welcoming space. The annual "Frantoi Aperti in Umbria" festival, from October 18 to November 16, 2025, will feature olive harvesting, tastings, concerts, and children's workshops in participating towns. The 28th edition of Evo & Art Experience offers itineraries through the Colli Orvietani (ceramics route) and Colli Amerini (naturalistic route), linking olive oil with art and history. The Colli Amerini area, a biodiversity site, includes the Olea-Mundi olive collection, the WWF Oasis of Alviano, and historic towns like Amelia (with Cyclopean walls and Roman cistern) and Lugnano in Teverina (with a Romanesque church and the Convent of San Francesco). The region's olive oils, Rajo and Moraiolo, are noted for their organoleptic qualities.
