Umber Majeed's J😊Y TECH Exhibition Critiques Western Tourism at Queens Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Umber Majeed's solo show, J😊Y TECH, at the Queens Museum in New York, is on display until 18 January 2026, delving into the shallow interactions of Western cultures. This exhibition coincides with another focused on the 1964–65 New York World's Fair, where Disney's 'it's a small world!' was first introduced. Majeed’s fictional travel agency, Trans-Pakistan Adventure Services, is inspired by her uncle's business, which shut down after 9/11. The exhibit includes Welcome to the Trans-Pakistan Pavilion! (2025), featuring distorted videos and historical artifacts, as well as Postcard (2024) for creating digital mementos. Timeline (2024–25) displays an iPhone wall decal, while WE CAN FIX IT (2025) showcases a ceramic sign. ArtReview will highlight the exhibition in its Summer 2025 issue.
