Uman's first institutional survey and monograph published by Monacelli and Hessel Museum

Monacelli, in collaboration with the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College, has released a significant new monograph named 'Uman'. This publication accompanies the artist's inaugural institutional survey, 'Uman: In Between', which is curated by Lauren Cornell and will be displayed from June 27 to November 29, 2026. The book opens with an essay by Cornell titled 'Color is memory', echoing Uman's own words. Tom Eccles, executive director of CCS Bard, notes that this is the first comprehensive volume to depict and examine Uman's work, showcasing nearly double the number of pieces compared to the exhibition. Uman's artwork is distinguished by its vivid colors, featuring elements such as circles, grids, eyes, plants, bodies, animals, and enigmatic symbols, with color serving as a vessel for experience.
