Ulla von Brandenburg's Haunted Fabrics at Art: Concept

exhibition · 2026-04-24

Ulla von Brandenburg is presenting her fourth solo show at Galerie Art: Concept in Paris from April 8 to May 13, 2017. The exhibition explores the ideas of absence and theatricality using fabric. Among the highlights are three chlorine 'anthropometries', where bleach is applied to performers wrapped in vibrant ultramarine sheets, leaving ghostly impressions of their tight fists. Additionally, four watercolors on gesso and wood depict performers with white faces and bodies marked by drips of color. A striking sculpture, 'Two Times Seven', features seven colored cloth pieces hanging from fishing rods, with dye stains on the floor. A ten-minute film, inspired by Wisława Szymborska's 1962 poem, showcases floating skirts. The artist, a 2016 Prix Marcel Duchamp nominee, skillfully blurs the lines between reality and art. The exhibition also received coverage in the Summer 2017 issue of ArtReview.
