Ulla von Brandenburg presents Under Water Ball at VISUAL Carlow with performance, film and installation
The exhibition Under Water Ball by German artist Ulla von Brandenburg is on display at VISUAL in Carlow, Ireland, from 6 June to 25 August. This showcase includes live performances, film, and sculptural installations that depict an imaginative underwater society. Collaborating with a group of performers, including local talent, von Brandenburg has created large fabric hangings from 2019 to 2024, featuring vibrant colors such as orange, purple, and yellow, with some textiles inspired by Sonia Delaunay's geometric patterns. White sculptures act as props throughout the exhibit. Initial performances showcased nine actors dressed in vintage costumes, accompanied by improvised music. The film Un bal sous l'eau (2023) delves into themes of aging and lost love through song and puppetry, merging theatre, dance, film, and sculpture.
