Ulisse Exhibition Reopens at Forlì's San Domenico Museums
The exhibition 'Ulisse' has reopened at the Museo di San Domenico in Forlì, Italy, exploring the figure of Odysseus (Ulisse) through art from antiquity to the present. The show features over 300 works, including a Roman copy of the Hellenistic Odysseus from Sperlonga, a 1st-century AD marble sculpture, and a replica of the Laocoon group by Vincenzo de' Rossi (1570). The exhibition is divided into sections: ancient art with depictions of sirens, Circe, Polyphemus, and the descent into Hades; a focus on Dante's reinterpretation of Ulisse in the 26th canto of the Inferno; and modern works by Carlo Carrà (La Musa metafisica), Giorgio de Chirico (Le Muse inquietanti), Mario Sironi (La Solitudine), and Arturo Martini (Ulisse). A highlight is a concentration of sirens, including John William Waterhouse's Pre-Raphaelite siren and Max Klinger's Triton and Nereid. The exhibition also includes a large horse sculpture by Mimmo Paladino referencing the Trojan Horse. Curated by Gianfranco Brunelli, the show emphasizes Ulisse as a symbol of the eternal traveler and the pursuit of knowledge.
