Ulaanbaatar Public Art Week Returns with 'Nomadic Democracy?' Theme

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The second edition of Ulaanbaatar Public Art Week, titled 'Nomadic Democracy?', launched in 2019 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Founded in 2017 by LAM360° – Land Art Mongolia, the event aims to foster public debate on global issues, focusing on migration through the lens of Mongolia's nomadic heritage. Founder and director Marc Schmitz stated the need for a new nomadic perspective. Italian participants include critic and curator Maurizio Bortolotti, who organized the conference and conceived the theme, and will curate the next LAM360 biennial. Marco Scotini, artistic director of FM Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea di Milano, is among international speakers. Artists Armin Linke (born 1966 in Milan) and Giuseppe Stampone (born 1974 in Cluses, France) are featured. The week includes talks, exhibitions, performances, and public interventions at venues such as MN 17 ART Gallery and other museums, galleries, and historical sites in the city.
