Ukrainian Wartime Art Offers Epistemic Resistance Model for U.S. Universities

Ukrainian wartime art demonstrates resilience against Russia's neocolonial violence, providing U.S. academic institutions with both insight and a methodology for resisting authoritarianism, violence, and erasure. In 2024, a series of research-led exhibitions was initiated to integrate Ukrainian art practices into global contexts, aiming to bring this work to U.S. universities. The primary objective is to establish productive interdisciplinary dialogue with academic communities while ensuring greater visibility for Ukrainian art in university-level teaching and research. This initiative seeks to create an appropriate scholarly niche for Ukrainian art history within academic discourse. The exhibitions are designed to facilitate knowledge exchange between Ukrainian artistic practices and American academic institutions. The project emphasizes how Ukrainian art's response to wartime conditions can inform resistance strategies in educational settings.
