Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art honors fallen poet Maksym Kryvtsov with group exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-02

Between Voice and Silence, an international group exhibition, is showcased by the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago from May 1 to June 28, 2025. This exhibition features the works of three artists: Katya Lisova and Matvii Vaisberg, both from Kyiv, and Ira Bondarenko from Ann Arbor. Their creations in textiles, printmaking, ceramics, and fiber delve into themes of empathy, resilience, and cultural identity in the context of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine. The exhibition honors the memory of Ukrainian poet Maksym Kryvtsov (1990–2024), who lost his life in January 2023 while defending his homeland, shortly after releasing his first poetry collection. The title is inspired by Kryvtsov's poem "In that space between."
