Ukei Shimada Designs Floating Clouds Residence in Tokyo
Architect Ukei Shimada has completed his own house, the Ukigumo - Floating Clouds Residence, in Suginami Ward, Tokyo. The 112-square-meter residence, completed in 2025, is situated in a densely packed residential neighborhood. Shimada's design concept emerged from observing the open sky between surrounding houses, with clouds floating above, inspiring the name 'Ukigumo' (floating clouds). The project was curated by Miwa Negoro, with structural engineering by Ladderup Architects, MEP & HVAC consulting by ZO Consulting Engineers, general contracting by Miyashima Koumuten Co., Ltd., and landscape design by Weru Landscape. The residence features products from Bosch, Delta Faucet, Koizumi Lighting Co., LIXIL, and Zucchetti. Photographs were taken by Koji Fujii / TOREAL. The project is categorized under Houses and was featured on ArchDaily.
