UK's largest artists' membership organisation rebrands as Artists Now
The Artists Information Company (a-n), the UK's largest artists' membership organisation, has relaunched as Artists Now. The rebrand aims to amplify artists' voices in policy-making, according to CEO Julie Lomax. Founded in 1980 as a grassroots newsletter with 500 copies per month, the organisation now boasts over 36,000 members. Annual membership costs £38 and includes insurance and a helpline. Artists Now campaigns on fair pay and intellectual property, engaging with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Visual Arts and Arts. It offers guidance on budgeting, contracts, and legal matters. A new Green Manifesto, developed by artists Tom Pope, Alys Scott Hawkins, and Melanie Wheeler, provides environmentally-conscious advice categorised as easy, medium, or hard changes. Lomax emphasises the manifesto is a call to action by artists for artists. The Gallery Climate Coalition launched a related consultancy, Climate Action Services International (Casi), earlier this year.
