In his inaugural speech outside No 10 Downing Street, he spoke to a crowd that included teenage influencers known for their TikTok content on Labour politics. Burnham also participated in an interview with Elizabeth Day for her podcast 'How to Fail', which features celebrities discussing their failures, shortly after establishing a new office in northern England. Steven Buckley, a digital media sociology lecturer at City St George's, University of London, remarked that Burnham’s communications team is more adept than that of his predecessor, Keir Starmer. His engaging on-camera presence has received acclaim, especially when compared to Starmer's formal demeanor. This strategy has garnered support from younger voters while facing criticism from traditional media, indicating a notable shift towards digital communication in politics.
