Uhuru Republic: Italian-Tanzanian collective releases debut album blending electronic and tribal sounds

Back in November 2020, Uhuru Republic, a super-collective based in Italy, released their debut album titled 'Welcome to Uhuru Republic' through La Tempesta Dischi, a record label co-founded by Davide Toffolo. This project showcases talents from Genoa and Turin, featuring artists like Giulietta Passera on vocals, FiloQ handling electronics, and Raffaele Rebaudengo on viola, alongside musicians from Tanzania and Kenya, including Tryphon Evarist and Pili Ameir Kombo. The album creatively merges electronic music with Taarab and Gogo influences, alongside themes from Afrofuturism. To complement the music, visuals were crafted by Nicola Alessandrini and Lisa Gelli, aiming to subvert Western stereotypes and create fresh imagery.
