Ugo Bienvenu's Dreamlike Drawings at Galerie Martel

Ugo Bienvenu (b. 1987) presents 'Futur antérieur' at Galerie Martel in Paris from May 7 to July 25, 2026. The exhibition features about twenty ink-on-paper works created during the marathon promotion of his first animated feature film 'Arco', which was acclaimed at Annecy, the Césars, and the Oscars. Bienvenu describes drawing as a physical necessity, using Moleskine notebooks to capture fleeting images born from exhaustion and movement. His drawings blend childhood memories, Greek mythology, Japanese folklore, and soft science fiction, exploring a 'troubled temporality' where past and future coexist. The artist, trained at Gobelins, the Arts Décoratifs, and CalArts, defends intuition against the constraints of the animation industry. He criticizes artificial intelligence as a threat to collective imagination, advocating for reading, dreaming, drawing, and boredom as antidotes. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
