Uganda's Museveni, 81, Begins 5th Term After 40 Years in Power

Yoweri Museveni, 81, was sworn in on Tuesday for a fifth term, extending his 40-year rule over Uganda. The ceremony took place at Kololo ceremonial grounds in Kampala, with thousands of supporters in attendance. Museveni's son and presumed heir, army chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, oversaw military parade rehearsals featuring Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets. This five-year term may be Museveni's last, but many Ugandans expect the Museveni family to retain power through a transition to Kainerugaba, who has emerged as de facto ruler.
