Uffizi Wins Award for Inclusive 'Uffizi per tutti' Project
The Uffizi Galleries in Florence have received a major award for their 'Uffizi per tutti' (Uffizi for Everyone) project, which aims to make the museum's collections accessible to people with sensory and cognitive disabilities. The project, initiated in 2018 under director Eike Schmidt, includes video descriptions in Italian and International Sign Language, a tactile book of Botticelli's 'Primavera', and the Uffizi Activity Bag with educational and anti-stress materials for autistic visitors. These tools were co-designed with associations such as Autismo Firenze Onlus, the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the National Deaf Organization. Anna Soffici, coordinator of the Cultural Mediation and Accessibility Area, explained that the project seeks to foster autonomy and enrich the experience for all visitors, not only those with disabilities. The museum is considering collaborations with other Italian and international institutions.
