Uffizi visitor damages 17th-century painting while posing for photo
On Saturday, a visitor at the Uffizi Galleries in Florence caused damage to a late 17th-century portrait of Prince Ferdinando I de' Medici, created by Anton Domenico Gabbiani. Security cameras captured the incident, showing the man trying to replicate the prince's pose before he lost his balance and fell into the artwork. This painting was featured in the temporary exhibition 'Florence and Europe. Arts of the Eighteenth Century.' Uffizi director Simone Verde expressed to The Telegraph that the trend of visitors taking selfies or making memes is widespread, despite existing rules aimed at preventing such actions. The exhibition will be closed temporarily, reopening from 2 July to 28 November.
