Uffizi Opens Major 18th-Century Exhibition with 150 Works from Collection

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The exhibition 'Firenze e l'Europa. Arti del Settecento agli Uffizi' has been inaugurated at the Uffizi Galleries in Florence and will be on display until November 28, 2025. Showcasing 150 pieces from the museum's collection, many of which have not been exhibited before due to renovations, the event is curated by Simone Verde and Alessandra Griffo. It emphasizes the Enlightenment period with works from artists such as Goya, Tiepolo, and Vigée Le Brun. Highlights include a live restoration of Pierre Subleyras's 'The Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine' (1746) and a recreated Cabinet of Erotic Antiquities. The exhibition also charts the Uffizi's transformation from a royal collection to Europe’s first modern museum, established by Anna Maria Luisa in 1737 and opened to the public on June 24, 1769, by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo.
