Uffizi Masterpieces Travel to Shanghai in Major Cultural Exchange
The Bund One Art Museum in Shanghai is hosting 'Autoritratti. Capolavori dagli Uffizi' until January 8, 2023, featuring over 48 self-portraits from the Uffizi Galleries' collection. The exhibition includes works by Chagall, Morandi, Nicola van Houbraken, Raphael, Bernini, Rubens, Rembrandt, Balla, and Guttuso. Curated by Alessandra Griffo and Vanessa Gavioli, the show is part of the 2022 Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism, which includes a five-year collaboration plan for 10 exhibitions and over six million euros in financial support from the Chinese museum to the Uffizi. The Uffizi's self-portrait collection, started in the 17th century by Cardinal Leopoldo de' Medici, now comprises over 2,000 works, making it the largest of its kind globally. Uffizi director Eike Schmidt emphasized the artists' role as communicators of human societal development and expressed delight in sharing the collection with Shanghai's audience.
