Uffizi Launches #BotticelliSpringMarathon Twitter Contest
The Uffizi Galleries in Florence have launched a social media campaign called #BotticelliSpringMarathon, inviting Twitter users to creatively reinterpret Sandro Botticelli's "Primavera." Running from March 21 to March 31, 2018, the initiative encourages participants to post original photos or digital reinterpretations of the iconic painting using the hashtag #BotticelliSpringMarathon. Organized by the museum's Digital Communication Department, the contest is open to all followers, online users, and visitors. Selected images will be featured in a virtual exhibition titled "Con la Primavera negli occhi…" on the Uffizi's official website. Director Eike Schmidt expressed hope for a "renaissance" during dark times, stating, "There is a great need for 'renaissance' in these gloomy days." The museum will also share daily clips about other Botticelli works from the Uffizi and Palazzo Pitti. Entries do not require the painting to be the subject or the photo to be taken inside the galleries; remote interpretations are welcome. Winners will be announced on the Uffizi Twitter account.
