Uffizi Galleries Sign Historic Five-Year Deal with Shanghai's Bund One Art Museum
The Uffizi Galleries in Florence have signed a landmark partnership with Shanghai's Bund One Art Museum, planning ten exhibitions over five years from 2022 to 2027. The agreement includes cultural exchanges and study opportunities, with the first three shows already contracted. The inaugural exhibition, 'Botticelli and the Renaissance,' opens in spring 2022 with about 50 works. The second, 'Self-Portraits: Masterpieces from the Uffizi,' runs from September 2022 to January 2023, featuring cultural figures from the 1500s to the 21st century. The third, 'Masterpieces of the 18th Century from the Uffizi,' is scheduled for March to July 2023. The Bund One Art Museum is contributing over €2 million plus a variable share of ticket revenue. Uffizi director Eike Schmidt called the partnership 'strategic for direct knowledge of our collections and Italy itself in China.' Culture Minister Dario Franceschini emphasized its value in intensifying appreciation for Italian cultural heritage in Shanghai. Florence Mayor Dario Nardella described the accord as a 'historic milestone of Italian cultural diplomacy,' noting it represents Italy's most ambitious international cultural promotion plan toward Asia and an 'amicable response' to the Louvre Abu Dhabi project.
