Uffizi Galleries Announce 2017 Exhibition Program
The Uffizi Galleries in Florence have unveiled their 2017 exhibition program, aligning with the city's contemporary art scene. Director Eike Schmidt stated that the museum will collaborate with the Municipality of Florence and the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi. Highlights include a Bill Viola retrospective at Palazzo Strozzi (March 10–July 23), the Italian art survey Ytalia at Forte Belvedere, and a solo show by Albanian artist Helidon Xhixha at the Boboli Gardens (June 27–October 29). The program began on January 10 with "Fashion in Florence through Lens" at the Archivio Foto Locchi in Palazzo Pitti. Spring exhibitions focus on women artists: Suor Plautilla Nelli and Maria Lassnig at Palazzo Pitti (March 25–June 25). Restored works include Nicolas Froment's triptych "The Resurrection of Lazarus" (March 7–April 30) and Leonardo da Vinci's restored "Adoration of the Magi" (March 28–September 24). The museum also presents "Facciamo presto! Marche 2016–2017" (March 28–July 30) highlighting treasures from earthquake-affected areas in the Marche region. Core programming includes a monographic exhibition on Giuliano da Sangallo's graphic work (May 16–August 20) and "Omaggio al Granduca" featuring silver plates for the Feast of St. John (June 24–November 5). The year concludes with exhibitions on Luther, Leopoldo de' Medici, and Eisenstein, plus Europe's first major show on Japanese landscape and nature painting from the Muromachi to early Edo periods (15th–17th centuries).
