Uffizi Diffusi Program Brings Art to Vittoriale degli Italiani on Lake Garda
The Gallerie degli Uffizi is extending its Uffizi Diffusi program to the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the former home of poet Gabriele d'Annunzio on Lake Garda. The initiative, launched in 2021 by Uffizi director Eike Schmidt, aims to display artworks from the museum's storage that are not usually accessible to the public. The partnership was announced by Vittoriale president Giordano Bruno Guerri during an event at the Archivio di Stato di Pisa. Schmidt expressed enthusiasm for highlighting d'Annunzio's role in Tuscan cultural heritage, while Guerri emphasized the collaboration between institutions. The Uffizi Diffusi project has formed alliances with about a hundred Italian museums, contrasting with Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano's proposal for a separate "Uffizi 2" to exhibit the museum's vast collection, of which only 480,000 of five million artifacts are currently displayed. Schmidt and Guerri aim to realize the exhibition as soon as possible.
