Uffizi and Google Launch Four Digital Exhibitions with Gigapixel Artworks
The Uffizi Galleries in Florence and Google Arts and Culture have unveiled a new collaborative project featuring four digital exhibitions available on uffizi.it and g.co/uffizigallery. The initiative includes a Google Cardboard tour and special content on works by Piero di Cosimo, Cimabue, Federico Barocci, and Amico Aspertini. Google Arts and Culture also released 73 masterpieces from the museum in Gigapixel resolution, ranging from Cimabue's Maestà di Santa Trinita to Piero di Cosimo's Liberazione di Andromeda, including Sandro Botticelli's Nascita di Venere. Botticelli's works were recently the focus of a renovation project. Uffizi director Eike Schmidt stated that these projects renew the museum's role as a center for research, education, and sharing, as originally established by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo of Tuscany in the 18th century.
