Uffe Isolotto's Centaurs Confront Technology's Myth at Den Frie Copenhagen

Uffe Isolotto, a Danish artist born in 1976 in Copenhagen, delves into the convergence of bodies and machines through themes of biotechnology and transformation. At Den Frie gallery, he showcased "We Walked the Earth: Harnessing," an evolved version of his installation from the 2022 Venice Biennale. This piece portrays centaurs in a transhuman setting within a Danish farmhouse, cluttered with straw, meat, tools, and extraterrestrial items. A male centaur, suspended by a noose, provokes shock, while a female centaur, exhibiting bloodshot eyes and vitiligo, has recently birthed a non-human fetus. The narrative hints at familial tensions amid biological changes driven by ecological and societal issues.
