Udo Kittelmann to leave Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation after 12 years

Udo Kittelmann will step down as curator of Berlin's Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in October 2020, marking the end of his 12-year service. Throughout his tenure, he managed prominent state art institutions such as the Neue Nationalgalerie, Hamburger Bahnhof, and Alte Nationalgalerie. Kittelmann was responsible for noteworthy exhibitions featuring artists including Gerhard Richter, Otto Piene, and Hilma af Klint at Hamburger Bahnhof, as well as an Andreas Gursky exhibition at the Museum Frieder Burda. He oversaw the €101 million renovation of the Neue Nationalgalerie, set to finish this year. Hermann Parzinger, president of the foundation, commended Kittelmann for elevating the Nationalgalerie's global status. Michael Eissenhauer, director of Berlin's state museums, praised his focus on people and international art dialogue. Joachim Jäger, the current head of the Neue Nationalgalerie, will act as interim director until a successor is appointed.
