UCCA Center for Contemporary Art to Open Shanghai Outpost in 2021

In 2021, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, the foremost independent contemporary art institution in Beijing, will establish a new branch in Shanghai. This new venue will be situated on the second to fourth floors of a building in the Jing'an district, crafted by the New York-based firm SO – IL. Spanning over 5,000 square feet, the space will showcase exhibitions featuring Chinese, international, and emerging contemporary artists. Founded in 2007, UCCA also manages UCCA Dune in Aranya, which recently opened and comprises seven indoor galleries and three outdoor ones. Philip Tinari, the director of UCCA, shared his enthusiasm for the Shanghai expansion, which reflects a growing trend of international institutions setting up in the city.
