UAE Pavilion at 2017 Venice Biennale explores artistic 'play' with nine artists across three sites
Hammad Nasar is the curator for the UAE Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, which is themed Rock, Paper, Scissors: Positions in Play. This exhibition is scheduled to take place from 13 May to 26 November in the Sale d'Armi section of the Arsenale. It features nine artists showcased across three distinct platforms: an exhibition with works by Nujoom Alghanem, Sara Al Haddad, Vikram Divecha, Lantian Xie, and Dr. Mohamed Yousif; a publication featuring projects by Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh & Hesam Rahmanian, Deepak Unnikrishnan, and WTD; and a program focused on institutional collaborations. Nasar emphasizes the unique challenges of Venice and the opportunity for the UAE to connect with international audiences, drawing from previous biennales and the local art community's understanding of the UAE pavilion's legacy.
