U67 Studio Designs Immersive Exhibition at Nasjonalmuseet – Arkitektur in Oslo
On June 8, 2017, the exhibition 'Et sted å være (A Place to Be)' opened at Nasjonalmuseet – Arkitektur in Oslo, curated by Markus Richter with art direction and installation by studio U67 (Angela Gigliotti and Fabio Gigone). Every five years, the museum invites a curator to assess the state of contemporary Norwegian architecture. This edition focuses on architectural production from 2011 to 2016, featuring 23 projects by local and international designers, as well as Norwegian architects abroad. The exhibition is divided into four sections: Cloud, Gallery, Portolano, and Prisma. Cloud presents 81 images along staircases and balconies. Gallery displays study models on steel plinths. Portolano is a 29 x 2.8-meter window graphic representing Oslo's waterfront development Fjordbyen. Prisma consists of 16 rooms covered in laser-engraved natural felt, with 133 drawings of the projects. The installation aims to create empathy between visitors and architecture through a gradual journey from two-dimensional images to three-dimensional models to abstract felt engravings. Studio U67 chose felt and laser engraving to provide an intimate, tactile experience, referencing Scandinavian relational culture and sacred spaces. The exhibition runs until November 19, 2017.
