U-Haul Gallery: nomad art space in a rental van tours fairs

exhibition · 2026-04-26

U-Haul Gallery, a nomadic art space founded in 2024 by American curators and artists James Sundquist and Jack Chas, operates out of a rented U-Haul truck costing $30 per day. The project aims to bypass New York's prohibitive real estate market and inject irreverence into the art market. After a debut group show in New York titled 'Delivery Included,' the gallery began crashing major art fairs without accreditation, including the Armory Show, Frieze London (where it showed Polish painter Vladimir Umanets in Berkeley Square, Mayfair), and now Art Basel Paris. In Paris, through October 26, the van is parked at 108 Rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais, open 6:30–8:30 PM, featuring Caroline Douville's 'Anbachal nèt' project exploring African American traditions and diaspora dynamics. During New York's late-summer art week, U-Haul Gallery organized the U-Haul Art Fair, hosting 11 independent galleries and curators in container trucks parked on Chelsea streets from September 5–7. Future plans include the Miami Mini Fair from December 3–7, 2025, with four vans presenting a group show titled 'Infinite Possibilities,' and a possible stop at Artissima in Turin. The gallery's movements are tracked via Instagram.
