Twyla Tharp and Carolina Bianchi Win Biennale Danza 2025 Lions
At the 2025 Biennale Danza, Twyla Tharp will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, while the Silver Lion will go to Carolina Bianchi. The Biennale di Venezia board, on the advice of artistic director Wayne McGregor, approved these awards, which will be given out during the 19th International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Venice, scheduled from July 17 to August 2. Born in Portland in 1941, Tharp has significantly influenced dance by merging various styles over the past sixty years. Bianchi, who was born in Porto Alegre in 1984, is recognized for her work "La sposa e Buonanotte Cenerentola." Tharp's double bill will kick off the festival on July 17, followed by Bianchi's "The Brotherhood" on July 18 and 19.
