Twobo's Red Concrete House Blends into La Mola Landscape
Twobo has completed Casa Sota la Mola, a 250-square-meter family home at the foot of La Mola, the highest peak in Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park in Barcelona. The fragmented volume is designed to blend into the rocky, reddish conglomerate terrain, using pigmented red concrete that matches the mountain's earthy tones. The structure is split into several pieces that follow the natural slopes and water runoff, avoiding a monolithic appearance. Inside, traditional Catalan vaults (volta catalana) are executed in exposed concrete, leaving the texture of wooden formwork visible. The floor plan divides into a day zone open to afternoon sun and a bedroom cluster around a cooler central patio. A large rock discovered during excavation was incorporated into the patio wall. The main bathroom features intense green ceramics to echo the combination of holm oaks and clay soil. Furniture includes pieces by Bivaq, ISIST atelier, and the iconic Butterfly leather chair. The project respects the protected natural environment and aims to feel like a natural extension of the Matadepera geography. Photography by José Hevia.
