Two Private Collections Showcase 20th-Century Italian Art at Bottegantica
Galleria Bottegantica in Milan presents 'Novecento privato', an exhibition of thirty works from two recently acquired private collections, spanning from 1906 to the mid-1960s. The show includes pieces by Giorgio de Chirico, Adolfo Wildt, Agostino Bonalumi, Emilio Vedova, and Renato Guttuso, among others. A notable discovery is Umberto Boccioni's 'Paesaggio lombardo' (1908), previously known only through a preparatory drawing, which was purchased by a Dutch friend of the artist who later became a major Argentine photographer. The exhibition also features Massimo Campigli's reinterpretation of Seurat's 'Grande Jatte' for a 1954 show, and works by Giacomo Balla, Tullio Crali, and Mino Delle Site. The venue itself, at Via Manzoni 45, previously housed the historic Galleria del Naviglio, run by Carlo Cardazzo, a key promoter of avant-garde art. Curated with insights from art historian Fabio Benzi, the exhibition adds new research to the understanding of these artists. The works are expected to eventually be sold to collectors.
