Two New York exhibitions explore photography's nature and landscape painting's alternatives

In New York, two summer exhibitions present differing perspectives on nature. 'Nature Photography' at JG/Contemporary, running until August 7, 2003, includes six artists who delve into the theme of photographic authenticity. Noteworthy pieces feature digitally altered foliage by Katleen Sterck and Terry Rozo, corporate pet fish images by Dirk Westphal, submerged models by Kim Keever, C-prints by Susan Unterberg, aluminum water visuals by Ray Charles White, and photogravures by Keith Cottingham. Meanwhile, 'Alternate Visions: Contemporary Landscape' at Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery, open until August 29, 2003, primarily displays traditional landscape paintings.
