Two new house museums to open in Milan in 2026
Milan will add two new house museums to its existing four, both donated to the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) and set to open to the public in 2026. Casa Crespi, a 1930s bourgeois residence designed for entrepreneur Fausto Crespi, will be dedicated to music education in honor of his son Alberto Crespi, who orchestrated the donation. Its upper floor will permanently display the Collezione Bagutta, a collection of drawings from the historic Trattoria Bagutta, donated by Gianfelice Rocca and Martina Fiocchi Rocca, featuring works by Filippo De Pisis, Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Levi, and Indro Montanelli. Casa Livio, acquired by textile entrepreneur Riccardo Livio in the early 1920s and inherited by the Grandi family in 2011, was donated by siblings Filippo, Laura, and Edoardo Grandi. The ground floor will tell the Grandi family's story as antiquarians and collectors, while the first floor will showcase the Collezione Grandi, comprising about 450 pieces including prints by Andrea Mantegna, Sandro Botticelli, and Rembrandt, with rotating exhibitions and workshops on drawing as a practice of observation. FAI president Marco Magnifico and Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala both highlighted the cultural and historical value of these additions, which expand the city's network of house museums that began with the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in 1881, followed by Bagatti Valsecchi, Villa Necchi Campiglio (donated to FAI in 1995), and Boschi di Stefano.
