Two New Books Explore Photography of Paola Agosti and Marialba Russo

Postcart has published two monographs on Italian photographers Paola Agosti and Marialba Russo, offering fresh perspectives on their work. Agosti's "Itinerari. Il lungo viaggio di una fotografa" (232 pp., €30) traces her career from the 1970s between Turin and Rome, covering her feminist documentation, travels to Argentina and South Africa (where she shot apartheid without permits), and portraits of cultural figures. Edited by Federico Montaldo, with preface by Liliana Lanzardo and afterword by Matteo Di Castro. Russo's "Il Passaggio. L’incanata" (72 pp., €30) focuses on her 1979 anthropological project in Irpinia and Lucania, documenting the ritual of incanata—an initiatory, therapeutic, and apotropaic practice to prevent infant hernias. The book includes a text by Marino Niola and is part of the I Quaderni dello Sguardo series. Both artists were born in 1947—Agosti in Turin, Russo in Naples (now living in Rome). The volumes were released in 2023.
